WORKSHOP REPERTOIRE:

A DAY OF RETREAT - YOGA AND THE BEATITUDES
Hatha YOGA postures will be alternated with soul nourishing SACRED DANCES focused on the BEATITUDES (sayings of Jesus about how to find blessing) chanted in Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke. The hauntingly beautiful melodies, in Middle Eastern style, for these "be-attitudes" will be accompanied with very simple meditative body movements. Bring your journal.

ARM BALANCES
Learn some of yoga's most exhilirating poses! This workshop teaches the fundamentals of arm balances as well as transitions from one balancing asana to another.

BACK CARE YOGA

Come discover how effectively yoga can relieve common back pain. Carefully selected and modified hatha yoga postures will be used in this workshop as both diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Regular practice of key postures that address your specific needs can keep you permanently pain free.

BODY READING/STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENT AND INDIVIDUALIZED YOGA THERAPY
Co-led by Michael Morrison, Certified Rolfer and Elaine G. McGillicuddy, Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor. As a participant, you will get individual attention to help you understand your underlyng body pattern (which could be a source of pain, potential injury, or difficulty in practicing certain yoga postures), and how to use yoga postures to meet your specific needs. A revealing, always interesting, sometimes challenging or potentially enlightening experience that could give you valuable clues for self-understanding. Especially helpful for body-workers of all kinds.

COUPLES' YOGA
Make a date to do yoga together. Partner assisted poses, breathing and relaxation to introduce your loved one to yoga.

DEVELOPING A PERSONAL YOGA PRACTICE
Individual practice is the only way to derive the full benefits of yoga. This is a popular workshop that students continue to claim has helped them make the breakthrough. Presentation and discussion of how to fashion an ongoing home yoga practice and how to modify it to meet different needs, followed by a short instructive practice of a suggested daily sequence.

DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE AND STABILITY IN INVERSIONS
We will explore a variety of techniques for working in handstand, forearm balance, headstand and shoulder stand.

EASING INTO BACKBENDS
Mr. Iyengar wrote in Light On Yoga: "Backbends are rejuvenating. They give energy and courage and combat depression. They open the chest and make the spine flexible. The arms and shoulders become strong. The mind and body become alert." Indeed exhilarating backbends can even be curative for many back problems when done properly, but they can be dangerous when practiced improperly. This workhsop will ease yoga students into backbends by focussing first on key areas which work to creat the backbend.

FORWARD BENDS
Grounding and extension allow freedom to surrender into these challenging yet deeply restful poses.

INTRODUCTION TO BALANCINGS
All poses involve balance, but when our hands become our feet, the intelligence has to shift. Opening hips and shoulders, utilizing arm strength and mula bandha, we'll develop a greater sense of ease and lightness in these poses

INTRODUCTION TO MEDITATION
An overview of various approaches to meditation (also called contemplation, lectio divina, centering prayer, and sitting practice, to name a few), will be followed by brief periods of meditation using different approaches. Students may arrive at 1 PM to do a half hour of their own hatha yoga practice if they wish.

LIBERATE YOUR NECK AND SHOULDERS
Do your tight shoulders give you a stiff neck and sap your energy? Yoga postures can help reeducate and awaken your shoulder region. Come learn basic principles of posture and shoulder movement and experience them in carefully selected yoga postures. Learn how to prevent the creation of tension in the first place. An experiential workshop for all levels.

MANAGING STRESS WITH YOGA
A series of easy yoga poses and relaxation techniques specifically designed to reduce stress.

MOVING TOWARD HANUMANASANA
Come learn the nuts and bolts of Hanumanasana. (The mythic Hanuman jumped the ocean in a single stride.) Whether or not you can do this advanced pose, we'll break it down and make the preparation fun and accessible.

PADMASANA
By following the thorough hip opening sequence, you will watch your lotus pose unfold and blossom.

PARIVRTTAS - THE REVOLVED POSES
Techniques, poses and sequences designed to open and prepare the body for the revolved poses.

RELEASING HAMSTRINGS
Called "the screamers" in Runners' World Yoga Book, hamstrings are so commonly tight that they have become a verb. Since tight hamstrings can cause back pain or injury, or at least impede progress in many sports, and especially in yoga, it is important to learn how to release them safely. This workshop will offer participants both technical and personal information and a variety of ways to work in selected postures that we will practice to release hamstrings.

RELEASING HIP JOINTS
Tightness in hip joints restricts full range of motion, leads to arthritis and possible hip degeneration. For yoga students, movement in this joint, which allows a separation of the torso and legs, is paramount for the ease of poses. The yoga postures in this workshop will explore the different range of movements the hip joint allows.

RESTORATIVE YOGA
Feel drained of energy? It's exactly when you think you don't have time for yoga that you need it the most. Come experience how powerful these restorative yoga postures are in creating a sense of well being. You would never have believed how profoundly relaxed you can be.

SEEING AND UNDERSTANDING OUR BODIES
A lively mix of instruction, poses and hands-on adjusting primarily for teachers and students who seek a deeper understanding of their own and others' bodies.

SEQUENCING
An interesting mix of poses in various sequencing possibilities for teachers and students who want to broaden their knowledge of Level I & II sequencing.

TEEN YOGA
If teens could only discover yoga during the challenging puberty years, their transition into adulthood would be eased! This workshop will offer teens precise active poses to correct posture, balance hormones, strengthen and stretch muscles and gain body confidence and mental clarity.

THERAPEUTIC YOGA
Individualized, basic yoga poses/principles to structural, physical and organic problems and limitations.

YOGA FOR DEPRESSION
Both didactic and experiential, this workshop will explain the physiology of depression and various types of depression. We will focus on specific yoga asanas to help alleviate depressive symptoms.

YOGA IN MENOPAUSE
Discover how specific sequencing and ways of working postures can help to calm the mind, cool the heart and balance hormonal chaos.

YOGA OVER 50
It's never too late to start reaping the benefits of yoga. Focus and rejuvenate mind and body; increase your stamina, flexibility and endurance.

YOGA FOR SCOLIOSIS
We aim, not to "straighten" your back, but to help you understand and relate to it. Yoga postures and certain habits of daily movement can help prevent the scoliotic curve from deepening over time and can give you relief from its tense muscular overlay. Come learn practical things that you can do to keep you back healthy.

YOGA FOR MS AND FOR CHRONIC AND OTHER DEBILITATING CONDITIONS
Basic and adapted poses and sequences for debilitating and/or chronic disease processes and limitations. Ambulatory only (for this workshop).

YOGIC BREATHING AND PRANAYAMA
Breathing well is not only the key to athletic success, deep relaxation, prepared childbirth and yoga postures, it is one of the most important components of physiological and psychological health. Breath awareness also creates the stillness which brings the mind home, -- the state of meditation where we glimpse and return to our deep inner nature, letting our self merge with our Source. Though including basics on the mechanics of breathing, this workshop will focus on giving participants an experience of breathing and pranayama (yogic breathing.)

YOGIC TWISTS
Gain direction and depth in your twists by freeing the spine and orbiting from the ribs and arms. We'll explore standing and seated twists with a few partner assists.
