Yamuna Body Rolling with Melora Gregory- Fall 2011 Session
DATES: Fall 2011 Session
TIME: 11:30- 1:15 NOTE NEW, LATER TIME!

COST: $20 each

Yamuna Body Rolling is a unique approach to health and fitness that helps people feel better, move more freely, gain strength, and eliminate pain.  Specially designed balls will; increase muscle length, create joint mobility, promote healing of injuries, tone muscles, energize nerve roots and vital organs, dislodge tension and discomfort, enhance blood flow, and stimulate bone.  An ideal practice for everyone, at all fitness levels, for dramatic and immediate results.  Carefully planned routines match the body's own logic and order to re-educate one's innate body awareness.

Sept 11 Leg Attachments
Sept 18 Neck and Shoulders
Sept 25 Breathe Fully
Oct 2 Deep Hips

Oct 9 Low and Mid Back Very effective Yamuna Body Rolling® routines allow us to separate the trunk from the pelvis, creating spinal length, developing core strength, and releasing neck tension.  This workshop will leave you feeling spacious, peaceful and quiet.  Very good for mid back discomfort, compressed disks and stress relief.

Oct 16 Upper Back and Neck The thoracic spine tends to round through postural habits and almost all our activities which cause us to hunch forward, in this practice we begin to unravel the chronic holding patterns, lifting the breast bone, going deep into the pec attachments, armpit adhesions, ribs and shoulder blades.  We free the front rib cage to lift which allows the neck to reposition and find ease.

Oct 30 Feet Ankles and Knees The Yamuna Body Rolling system of Foot Fitness uses special props to restore healthy foot function by creating balance, flexibility, strength, and raised arches. Prevent and care for common foot problems and practice proper gait. We will work on ankle mobility, lengthening and toning calf and shin muscles, creating length, strength and realignment around the ankle joint. The knee routines create space in the joint, and develop long and strong muscles from the pelvis to stabilize the knee.

Nov 20 Leg Attachments All the leg muscles attach to the pelvis and down to the knees, so by releasing tight hamstrings, quadriceps, adductors and IT band we create muscle length and free the pull on the pelvis and knees.  Learn the routine developed to help relieve sciatic pain.

Nov 27 Hands Wrists and Arms The Yamuna Body Rolling hand and wrist routines relieve stress from repetitive motion. Writing, typing, musical instruments, house and yard work to name a few examples. We connect the movements at the ends of the muscle chains up through the forearm to their source at the shoulders. Great for arthritis and carpal tunnel!  We will  include shoulder opening routines to free the whole upper body!

Dec 11
Deep Hips Release tightness from the deep lateral rotators, tone the buttocks, work out tight hamstrings, quads, adductors and iliotibial bands, freeing the leg attachments to the pelvis.  Great for Sciatica relief as well as low back and knee issues

Dec 18 Neck and Shoulders The Neck and Shoulders routines help us lift the chest, widen the collarbones, free neck stiffness and release tightness in the shoulders.  Great way to lengthen your spine and feel more mobile and spacious in the upper body!  Good for injuries, frozen shoulder, scoliosis, and neck issues.

DATE: Sunday, January 1, 2012
TIME: 1:00- 3:00 pm

COST: $25

Yin yoga is slow and steady with a sense of softening or letting go. Yang yoga is relatively active, building heat and strength. As we see in the Yin/Yang symbol, nothing is pure yin or pure yang and we need both types of energy in our bodies and in our lives.

Yin yoga focuses on relaxing and strentching the connective tissue, making it an ideal form forthose with chronic back or hip pain. Also suitable for those rehabbing from injury, or anyone who simply feels stiff. It is ideal for both seasoned and new yoga practitioners.

Based on the work of Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, we will learn a combination of Yin and Yang poses to make up a balanced home practice. We will end the workshop with a warm cup of Chai. What a perfect way to welcome the New Year! Back to top

Friday Afternoon & Evening

Jnana: The Power of Intention In yoga, sankalpa, or intention, is what fuels the ability to keep practice over a lifetime. We will discuss how to inspire ourselves to maintain a passionate approach over the decades, as well as to clearly define and skillfully work with adversities, pitfalls, obstructions, and shadow elements, whether personal, familial, social, or global.

Hatha: The ABC's of Hatha Yoga The basics of th eYoga system focuss on clear demonstrations and instructions, followed by observation and correction fo the poses. Beginners learn the fundamentals of hip and groin openers and standing postures. Variations and creative prop work will refind your understanding and guide future development.

Saturday morning

Jnana: The Guru as Consciousness and The Master as the Invisible Asana Instead of projecting the force of inspiration outside ourselves in teh form of another human being, yoga teaches one to recognize the same consciousness as teh Guru within oneself. Practice embodies the passion of the Master who leads one on the search for perfection in teh ever-evolving, ever-renewing ideal presentation of the pose.

Hatha: Sharpening the Edge Although beginners to yoga practice gentle stretches that do not jolt the body into health and fitness, continuing and advanced students know that further growth in yoga comes from safely challenging the limits of what the body can do. As the Master quips, "You yourself don't know what you are capable of." Today's class will appropriately take your practice tothe next level by showing how to work proper sequencing for strong standing poses, inversion variations, and baby back bends.

Saturday Afternoon/ Evening

Jnana: Zones of Annihilation Yoga is as much about letting go of what is unwanted, as it is abou tcreating what is wanted. Just as repeated practice of poses leads to skillful and successful development, so does facing again and again the negative states of mind and experiences of daily life, cultivate the peace and contact with the depth of our Being.

Hatha: Safe Inversions Yoga says that inversions done daily give vitality, clarity, and tranquility. Special attention will be given to head stand and shoulder stand, to learn how to approach these poses with proper sequencing htat will help avoid glitches and teach recovery poses that undo any incorrect habits of practice. Continuing and advanced students will learn variations and creative prop work to refine their understanding and guide their understand and guide their future development.

Sunday Morning

Jnana: Yoga as Fact Yoga as Fiction Yoga is one of hte most sublime and yet misunderstood subjects to study and practice. Ancient intuition and ageless wisdom are both filled with truth as well as imagination and fantasy. Today's dharma talk will clarify what is scientific and what is symbolic about yoga.

Hatha: Vinyasa Krama-Master Class Vinyasa Krama are timed sequences in hatha yoga which link each pose to the previous and successding pose and connects the whol with continuous rhythmic breathing. Today's class will link standing poses through Sun Salutations, starting off easy and progressing to more diffiult poses. Both static and dynamic aspects of vinyasa will be explored.
