Stephanie Abrams

Stephanie is honored to be the current owner of PYS. She is a certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. She began her study of Iyengar Yoga in 1996 in Washington, DC.  After a two year teaching apprenticeship with John Schumacher, she began to teach in 2001.  She continues her study with Patricia Walden and Peentz Dubble in Boston, MA. Melora Gregory, R.Y.T.

Melora has been passionately studying and teaching yoga since 1993 here at PYS. Her main influences are BKS Iyengar Master Teachers Patricia Walden and Gabriel Halpern. Melora continues to learn anatomy, therapuetics, yoga theory, and flow sequences, from a wide variety of teachers, which she joyfully incorporates into her classes. Melora has been the yoga instructor for weeklong retreats to Italy, to Monhegan Island, and in 2009 to Costa Rica. She is recently certified as a Yamuna Body Rolling instructor. www.yogatravelwithmelora.com

 

Elaine G. McGillicuddy, MA

Co-founder of PYS in 1987 with her late husband Francis, Elaine was a certified Iyengar Yoga instructor for 18 years. She began teaching yoga in 1980. She has not only participated in many Iyengar yoga workshops in and outside of the US, but has studied with the Iyengars in India. Elaine finds in her deep daily yoga practice, and indispensable lifeline.

 

 

Pamela Ryan

Pamela, a certified Iyengar Yoga instructor, is influenced by the ancient yogic texts and the clarity and joy they bring to modern daily life. An ongoing student of Patricia Walden, she travels to India regularly to study with the Iyengars.

 


Mary A. Taylor, D.C.

Iyengar certified in 1986, Mary's studies continue and include many internationally known masters as well as the Iyengars in India. She uses yoga as an adjunctive therapy in her chiropractic practice in Kennebunk.

 


Craig Williamson, MSOT

Craig is the author of Muscular Retraining for Pain-Free Living (Shambhala, 2007). He has a private practice in Portland, where he uses Williamson Muscular Retraining, a synthesis of corrective movement exercies, alignment techniques, and hands-on bodywork. David Yearwood

David is excited to be teaching at Portland Yoga Studio. He holds a BFA in short story writing and a BFA in String Based Performance, both from the University of Illinois. He began study in Iyengar Yoga in 1990 under mentorship of Lois Steinberg and began teaching in 1992 when she left her classes to him while travelling to study in India. He moved to New York City in 1993 where he produced performance art pieces with theatical music groups COOCOOHANDLER and Uncle Jimmy's Dirty Basement. Pursuiing his artistic endeavors, he continued to teach yoga, completing his Introductory Level II certification in Iyengar Yoga under Mary Dunn and James Murphy at the Iyengar Institute of Manhattan. He became a teacher on the staff at the Institute and taught for 4 years. After moving to Maine in 2005, David went on a four year teching sabbatical. Settling into his personal practice, getting and being married to Parks McKinney, yoga, surfing, music, and long-time career as a painter and faux finish artist. David sees yoga as a tremendous means of discovering, nurturing, and sharing our greatest gifts, and is thrilled to re-enter teaching.
