ATTRACTION TO YOGA
I took a free class at the Portland Yoga Studio with Elaine McGuillicuddy in 1991 and felt as though I were floating out of the classroom as I left. I was impressed with the precision of the correct body alignment and the authenticity with which the yoga was presented. I returned again and again, and, in less than three months knew that I wanted to become a yoga teacher and began apprenticing with Elaine. About a year later she needed a sub and although I did not feel qualified to teach such a rich and complex science of life, Elaine assured me that I knew more than she did when she began teaching. Spurred by Elaine's encouragement, I started a beginners's class shortly after.

WHAT TEACHING Y0GA MEANS TO ME
I love teaching so much that it doesn't even feel like work. I could go in to teach with a headache and it immediately disappears, as my enthusiasm for the poses takes over and the needs of the students becomes my primary focus. I especially enjoy working with students with physical ailments, as yoga usually provides relief, and hearing of newfound physical freedoms is so encouraging. Becoming owner of Portland Yoga Studio, what some have called "the premier yoga studio in Portland", has been an honor, and with the help of my life partner, Garry Black, as our administrator, it is a fun family business.

SHOWCASING MY DAUGHTER, THE ARTIST Aschel Gregory graduated in the top 10% of Cape Elizabeth High School Class of 2007, and was leader of the Siddhartha Club, supporting a Tibetan school in India and co-leader of Amnesty International. Aschel is off to New Zealand, her birth place, for University in Feb 2008. She has earned a reputation for "most artistic" in her class and many of her works have been purchased, as well as received Gold Medals in the Maine State Scholastic Art Competition. I am pleased to present her work here for all to enjoy! Call 767-2667 if you would like to commission a painting, she is especially fond of portrait painting.
